How to transfer files from one PC to another

The computers can run different operating systems. Both need a current browser and internet access.

  1. 01

Open SendIt on the computer with the files

Select “I have files to send.” A short-lived session and pairing options will appear.

  2. 02

Open SendIt on the second computer

Choose the receiving option and enter the four-digit session PIN. Compare the single eight-digit security number shown on both screens.

  3. 03

    Choose the files and transfer

Select the content on the first computer. The browser encrypts file data and protected metadata before transmission.

  4. 04

    Download on the receiving PC

Accept the incoming transfer and save the file. Keep the session open until the download finishes.

02 / Guide

Choosing a PC-to-PC transfer method

A USB drive is dependable when both computers are in the same room. A shared cloud drive works well for files that need long-term access. Network sharing is convenient after it has been configured. SendIt is designed for the moment when you want a quick transfer without setting up any of those systems.

Because the transfer runs in the browser, it is also useful between Windows, macOS, and Linux computers that do not share the same built-in sharing feature.

03 / Guide

What about large files?

Standard live transfers remain tied to the active browser session. Keep both tabs awake and connected until the receiver finishes downloading.

SendIt also offers credit-based large transfers. Those encrypted file objects can be stored temporarily in Cloudflare R2 so the transfer can use the large-file workflow. R2 does not receive the browser-held decryption key, and the object is deleted after the transfer expires.

04 / Guide

If the computers do not connect

Check that both browsers can reach SendIt, confirm the session PIN, and make sure neither tab has gone to sleep. A corporate firewall, privacy extension, or restrictive network can block WebSocket connections.

If a PIN session shows different security numbers, cancel it. Start a new session and only continue when the same number appears on both computers.

Questions

Common questions

Can I transfer from Windows to Mac?

Yes. SendIt works between supported modern browsers, so the two computers can use different operating systems.

Do both PCs need to be on the same Wi-Fi network?

No. The connection uses SendIt's web relay, so the computers only need internet access and do not need to share a local network.

Should I continue if the security numbers differ?

No. Cancel the connection and create a new session. Only approve PIN pairing when the same eight-digit number appears on both devices.

Ready when both devices are

Move the file. Skip the setup.
